If you follow us on Facebook or Twitter, you’ve noticed that we reference sewer work a lot. Below is the third post in a four-part series that take readers through the process of completing sewer work from start to finish.
Once you’ve found the right plumbing contractor who can complete the entire project, it’s time for them to get work identifying exactly what and where the problem is. The first thing we do at Approved Plumbing is start to back-up the system by running water and flushing toilets. We need to this first to help locate the problem. It will also help us know when we’ve located and temporarily cleared the blockage because the water will drain.
We use 5/8” steel cable with coil every 25 feet to clear the blockage, which also helps us locate approximately where the problem is. From there we can send in our camera and determine the status of the pipe. We’ll be able to tell if there’s a major break or if regular maintenance might be able to help control the problem. In some cases, annual cleaning and inspections might be enough. Some of our customers also use root control products to help cut down on the damage from trees on the property.
If a repair or complete replace is needed, then we’ll need to bring in some heavier equipment – and we’ll talk about that in our next post!
