We wanted you to Meet Your Plumber! Specifically, our experienced lead technician, Carl Corrao.
- How long have you been plumbing?
- Just over 13 years. I started here in September, 2003. I found Approved Plumbing in the Sun Newspaper. This was my first construction gig.
- Do many of your co-workers call you for help?
- Yes. The new technicians call for help and advice occasionally. Family members also call me for help when they need it.
- What is your favorite part about your job?
- I love helping people! Specifically, I love educating clients about safety issues that people typically would never consider a risk. I like helping clients learn their plumbing system. I teach them the importance of devices, appurtenances, and their plumbing system as a whole.
- Do you have a favorite neighborhood or area you like to service?
- No particular favorite. I grew up in Independence. Some neighborhoods are more difficult than others! Experience makes a huge difference when servicing older homes. For instance, many of the homes on the east side are older and more difficult to troubleshoot and make repairs. As long as I’m helping people, I’m happy.
- What is the worst situation you have seen?
- I saw an ice cave between a garage and a kitchen. It looked like a big crystal cave. The homeowner had a friend attempt to make a repair. They used the wrong fitting. The area wasn’t properly insulated and it was during the middle of winter. I was able to cap the water line and advise the client on how to resolve the issue. This situation cost the home owner thousands of dollars.
- Since you started, has plumbing changed? If so, how?
- Plumbing is harder than people think. Due to the internet and box stores, more and more homeowners are attempting repairs themselves before realizing how hard it is. They eventually call for help.
- In your findings, what is the most common problem homeowners currently face?
- High water pressure. Having high water pressure is very detrimental to their plumbing system. It is harder on all your fixtures, creates leaks, and even causes floods! High water pressure should be corrected immediately.
- Is your job dangerous?
- Occasionally. During an excavation in Brecksville, we had to dig 13 feet deep to repair the sanitary sewer. This was a few years ago and possibly the most dangerous situation we have been in. A cubic yard of soil alone weighs approx. 2,200 pounds. Therefore if a wall caved in, anyone down there would be killed. We use the best safety equipment to help prevent such accidents. However, it is still scary.
- What do you like to do outside of work?
- I enjoy campfires, going on vacation, and traveling with my wife Stephanie. I have 3 kids; Christian, Chloe, and William. I enjoy watching the Browns attempt to win a football game.
- What is your favorite beverage?
- I drink Arnold Palmers on a daily basis. During the summer time, I will enjoy an occasional Margarita.
